Packaging for lubricating grease

Key requirements

  • Ensuring the safe packing of special zinc grease into barrier bags in accordance with the parameters specified in the drawing documentation which included the exact specification of the lubricant and the required packaging shape.
  • Provision of accurate dosing of a 7-gram lubricant into each package.
  • Minimising the risk of lubricant leakage from the packaging and ensuring its tightness.
  • Designing a package that allows easy handling and simple opening.
  • Delivery of a comprehensive solution ranging from material selection and packaging technology to the final packaging product provision.

     

Case solution procedure:

1. Foil Specifications.
It was necessary to select a barrier foil resistant to the aggressive chemical properties of zinc grease. We specified a material with increased chemical resistance that also meets the requirements for hermeticity and packaging durability.
2. Slight perforated easy-tear opening.
We have added a slight perforation in the weld area to make the bags easier to open. This modification allows for quick and convenient tool-free opening, without compromising the seal during storage or handling.
3. Comprehensive solution for packing technology of the grease.  
The specifics of the zinc grease presented several major challenges:
  • small dosing (7 g) requires extreme machine precision,
  • high viscosity at room temperature (20 °C) prevents standard dosage,
  • microscopic particles in the grease quickly degrade conventional dosing mechanisms.
In cooperation with our long-standing foreign partner specializing in machine technology, we designed a customized machine that meets all the specified requirements.The machine is equipped with a system for heating the zinc grease to 75 °C before dosing, which significantly reduces its viscosity and enables precise and smooth dosing. The machine’s structural components have been modified to resist the aggressive properties of the grease, while minimising their wearing and extending the life of the equipment. 

The proposed solution and confirmation of the ability to meet customer requirements was successfully verified and confirmed by a process audit.

Result:

  • Hermetically sealed barrier bags with precisely dosed zinc grease weighing 7 g, and with a print according to the customer’s specifications.
  • A complete solution ranging from the design and technology selection to delivery of the final packaging product.

Special features of the solution:

  • A durable foil: It protects the contents against chemical effects while guaranteeing a hermetic seal.
  • Precise dosing: This was enabled by the technology of directed heating of the grease to 75 °C, which reduces its viscosity and ensures smooth dosing.
  • Easy opening: The perforation allows for easy opening of the bag without compromising the contents or the protective properties of the packaging.
Thanks to the detailed approach to the materials and processes analyses, we were able to provide the customer with a comprehensive solution for packaging of the zinc grease. The resulting product reliably ensures the required quality and fully meets the customer’s technical and user requirements.
